Santa Teresa de Jesús or simply Santa Teresa de Ávila (1515 - 1582) was a nun, founder of the Order of Barefoot Carmelites - a branch of the Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel -, mystic and Spanish writer.
Canonized in 1614.
She was proclaimed a doctor of the Catholic Church in 1970 during the pontificate of Paul VI.The abodes, also called The inner castle is a work of Teresa de Ávila, a barefoot Carmelite nun, written in 1577 as a guide for spiritual development through service and prayer.
Inspired by its vision of the soul as a castle-shaped diamond, divided into seven mansions, the work is conceived as the progress of faith in seven stages, which concludes with union with God.He began writing the work in 1577, completing it in November 1577.
In August 1586, the Augustinian monk Fray Luis de Leon was elected as editor of the work, after which, finally, in 1588 the book was published in Salamanca, Spain.
